Vivo and RIM Launch the New BlackBerry Pearl 8110 with a Strategy Focused on End-Users

New model enhances the portfolio of smartphones compatible with the Vivo Co-Piloto navigation service

Sao Paulo, Brazil - Vivo and Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) are launching the new BlackBerry Pearl 8110 smartphone in Brazil. Its main differentiators are the built-in GPS (Global Positioning System), the camera that now allows for video recording and the design associated to the new colors: Titanium, which reinforces the smartphones elegance, and Pink, focused on the growth of the female market of smartphone users. The handheld consolidates itself both as productivity and an entertainment solution for the retail market and is compatible with the Vivo Co-Piloto navigation service. Vivo is offering the new BlackBerry Pearl 8110 through all its channels in the country, starting at R$ 299 when purchasing the Vivo Escolha 650 plan together with an unlimited data package on BlackBerry Internet Service.

The BlackBerry Pearl 8110 is one of the smallest and lightest smartphones on the market and features built-in GPS, along with the ability to manage calls, send emails, stay organized, surf the net, take and send photographs, listen to music, record and watch videos and access a range of business and lifestyle applications.

Vivo Co-Piloto is a navigation service that provides customers with audible turn-by-turn directions helping them find their way through the streets and avenues of major Brazilian cities. The service also allows users to search for private and public establishments, including points-of-interest. Vivo Co-Piloto is both functional and easy-to-use, giving customers moving 3D color maps of their immediate locale and the ability to zoom in or out. The monthly subscription fee for Vivo Co-Piloto is R$17.90.

The BlackBerry Pearl 8110 features:

Provides an exceptional user experience through its trackball navigation system and RIMs popular SureType keyboard system which allows a narrower handset design while maintaining easy phone dialing and message typing.
Comes with a 2 megapixel camera with 5x digital zoom and enhanced flash. The camera also supports video recording in two resolutions: 240x180 or 176x144 for sharing via MMS. The handheld also comes with a pre-installed 1 Giga microSD card.
BlackBerry Desktop Software that includes Roxio Media Manager for BlackBerry, a powerful media manager application that allows users to easily search for media files on their computer, view and organize them, create MP3 music files from CDs, add audio tags and album art, create playlists and copy or convert pictures, music and videos for optimal playback on the smartphone. The application also includes Roxio Photosuite 9 LE for enhancing pictures and creating photo albums on the PC.
Supports the Bluetooth stereo audio profile (A2DP/AVRCP), and comes with a standard 3.5 mm stereo headset jack so that users can plug in their preferred headphones or speakers.
Includes Speaker Independent Voice Recognition (SIVR) for Voice Activated Dialing (VAD), Bluetooth 2.0 support for hands-free use with headsets, car kits and Bluetooth peripherals.

Vivo Co-Piloto features:

The service covers 150 cities, including the main Brazilian capital cities (So Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Braslia, Curitiba, Porto Alegre, Florianpolis).
To start a route, the user provides a destination address, including the city, state, street and number. The service then traces a route with step-by-step directions. As the user travels the route, Co-Piloto provides audible directions.
Users can scroll through maps using the handset's trackball, and zoom in and out of a map.
The Search feature allows the user to define the particular establishment they are looking for (eg. shopping). A list of establishments is generated and the user can select the location and request a map, additional information or a route.
Favorite locations can be stored so they can be easily accessed for subsequent routes, searches or maps.
The monthly subscription fee is R$17.90 and there is no charge for data traffic.
