Sony Ericsson's music slider phone, the W580i, has flown up the Mobile Contract Tracker charts, hitting second place in just three weeks. The device debuted in the charts at 20th place, shot 13 spots to seventh position last week and has now taken the number two spot.
It is second to Samsung's extremely popular U600, which has been unbeatable for the last three months. The W580i could be the device to knock the U600 from its long-standing pole position.
Sales have been prompted this month by Carphone Warehouse email bulletins, offering customers a free Nintendo Wii with the W580i for online customers buying the phone on an O2 35 18-month contract.
'It seems to be very popular. One out of three of the contracts we sell is one of those. It's nice and just a bit different,' said one Carphone salesperson. Another added: 'It's got instant appeal. The colour schemes down the front are different and the styling is brilliant.'
The Tracker lists the top-selling handsets across Carphone and Phones 4u.
